HORIZON 2020

The European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020)
Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness. Horizon 2020 is open to everyone, with a simple structure that reduces red tape and time so participants can focus on what is really important. This approach makes sure new projects get off the ground quickly – and achieve results faster.

Apre and Horizon 2020:

APRE participated at the public consultation "Green Paper on a Common Strategic Framework for future EU Research and Innovation Funding" launched by the European Commission. It was the first step towards the new Framework programme, and it was based on the opinion shared with APRE's network of Members. The document was published on the website of the European Commission. Here you can find the document.

Curiosity:

The name "Horizon 2020" was chosen through an online voting competition ("You name it"), and acquired the majority of the votes against its competition (Imagine 2020 and Discover 2020). The competition winners were Marcela Endlova, a teacher from the Czech Republic, and Beata Zyngier, also a teacher, from Poland, who both suggested the name. They won a trip to Brussels to attend the the European Innovation Convention in December 2011.
