Caribbean Area

caraibi

The European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries (ACP Countries) have maintained privileged political-trade relations over the past few decades.

In fact, from the 70's until today commercial relations have substantially thrived and consolidated from every point of view.

As evidence thereof, the EU Research Framework Programmes have always supported and encouraged international cooperation with Caribbean Countries.

Today, a large number of ACP countries (group) benefits from the EU’s FP7 for Research and Development Programmes, such as the interchange of researchers.

In 2010 the EU-Latin America and Caribbean (EU-LAC) Summit focused on bi-regional cooperation as regards the matter of "Technology Innovation for Sustainable Development and Social Inclusion". The summit endorsed a Joint UE-LAC Action Plan for Research and Innovation with the objective of promoting scientific and technological cooperation between the EU and LAC Countries.

There are several possible research thematic areas in this geographical area including:

  • Climate Change
  • Biodiversity
  • Health (research activity related to infectious diseases)
